For as long as he can remember, Tom has been an angler, in every discipline that he has had access to. As a junior, he was a keen fly angler, and after years of practice and dedication he managed to obtain a position in the welsh youth teams which gave him the honour of representing his country in two home internationals and 1 world championship before he was 16 years old.
Whilst fly fishing was Tom's main focus, he was also a very keen match angler and that’s where his interest in carp was first ignited at around the age of 12. Tom quickly developed a love for carp and pretty soon the urge to get out on the bank was growing more and more fierce with every session.
He worked hard to develop his skills over the next few years and eventually started targeting waters with bigger fish. He put aside the fly and match gear and started to target the bigger residents in his local lakes with a dedicated carp set up.
Tom still has an interest in all other disciplines of angling although he rarely deviates from his personal carp fishing targets. He now fishes at least 3 evenings a week after work and practically every weekend. So far he has a current PB of 37lb 12oz.
Tom's favourite venues to fish are definitely large, weedy waters with old fish that are steeped in history. The majority of his fishing in recent years has been on park lakes, day ticket waters and syndicate venues although that seems to be changing as time goes on.
Looking forward, Tom has a list of target waters that hold some incredibly special carp and he feels that it’s only a matter of time before he adds some of those beauties to his photo album.
